Facing northeast, a view of the five aisle cruciform basilica. Extensive reconstruction of this magnificent church began under the direction of Dr. Harold Mare during the summer of 1999. 26 columns were placed on their bases and stood for the first time in nearly 1300 years. Reconstruction and salvage will continue for the summer of 2000. |
