This photograph shows the enduring signs of archaeology's long standing enemy--robbers. The portrait is of an older woman dressed in dark clothes. The Greek inscription indicates that she was sixty-five years of age. In the burial chamber behind the portrait, a pair of gold earrings and a large silver Antonine coin of the early third century were found. In the pit, a coin of Diocletian, carved funerary busts, including one that may have portrayed this woman, and a bag jar were found. | |
