This sculptured gyno-sphinx is one of two, both of which ornament either side of the oval archway that lead into the southern antechamber. The sphinx sits upright with its anthropomorphic torso and face turned upward toward those who approach the entrance. Their wings are spread and their feline hindquarters are tensed. It has wavy hair parted in the middle and surmounted by a tiara. The facial features are rather somber and the mouths are reminiscent of the sculptures from Khirbet Et-Tannur. These sphinxes extend a hand (partially chipped) to welcome those who enter the antechamber for appropriate purposes.
